Dr. Spurgeon has extensive experience investigating Indoor Air Quality issues involving microbial and chemical contaminants in commercial, healthcare, technical, and residential properties. Much of that experience was gained while working for the US Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Public Health Service, and the Centers for Disease Control.
Dr. Spurgeon received a multi-disciplinary doctorate in environmental health and analytical chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was an Air Pollution Fellow. This degree led to work with the Initial Lead Paint Poisoning program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and then to extensive research in combustion toxicology with the FAA. Dr. Spurgeon received an MBA in real estate finance from the Wharton School in 1981, and worked as a general contractor and residential builder for many years. He obtained his certification in comprehensive industrial hygiene in 1993, and worked as a consultant to the U.S. Public Health Service as a consultant until 1999, when he relocated from the Washington, DC area to Southern California.
Dr. Spurgeon now works as a consultant and expert witness specializing in microbial indoor air quality investigations. His company (formerly Bayshore Environmental, Inc. and now dba Indoor Health Associates) provides services to law firms, industry, hospitals, schools, and individuals.
